Vienna 2007

The main theme at the Edinburgh meeting, 2006 was “Delimitation Criticism and Exegesis”, and it was decided that this theme would also be used for the International Meeting at Vienna, 2007. The recurring question during the Pericope sessions is whether the search for the oldest extant delimitation markers of the biblical text helps us to understand the biblical tradition in a better way. In the form of seminars, workshops, and papers the participants will discuss various methods of analysing delimitation markers. It will be discussed whether the delimitations in the ancient manuscripts reflect and/or depend on ancient exegesis. In addition the question may be addressed whether this testimony from ancient exegesis is of any help for modern exegesis. Colleagues who wish to discuss questions regarding the methodology are also invited to submit a proposal. Sessions are in the form of seminars, workshops and papers. Those willing to participate are invited to contact the Program Unit Chairs and to submit a proposal.

Program Unit Chairs:
Raymond de Hoop, Old Testament and Ancient Near East (rdehoop@mac.com)
Stanley E. Porter, New Testament and Classical Antiquity (princpl@mcmaster.ca)

Changes in the Pericope Board

Kim Haines-Eitzen, Konrad Jenner and Johannes de Moor have stepped down as Editors of the Pericope series to make room for new members. All three are thanked warmly for their support. Welcomed on the board are Raymond de Hoop (Jayapura/Indonesia), Gert Prinsloo (Pretoria/South Africa) and Wido van Peursen (Leiden/Netherlands). Raymond de Hoop and Stan Porter will also function as unit chairs and organisers of future Pericope meetings (2006-2010). De Hoop will oversee the recruitment of Old Testament papers and seminars, whereas Porter will do the same for the New Testament. Paul Sanders (Rijswijk, Netherlands) has accepted to act as Assistant-Editor to help alleviate Marjo Korpel's editorial tasks (message updated January 15, 2007).
